Description

As bourbon tradition mandates, it undergoes a four-year ageing process in brand-new, charred American oak barrels. The extended maturation period in these fresh charred barrels imparts a heightened spiced oakiness and caramel sweetness to the liquid. To underline that sensation, some of the baking spices one would use for this dessert are thrown in for good measure. A gentle smear of marzipan towards the very end and some more burnt caramel round off the complex scent. All in all, the nose offers a lot of depth and enough spice to balance the creamy, mellow characteristics. Speaking of spice, I’m reminded of pink peppercorns, a few powdered cloves and nutmeg, all mingled in with a soft fruitiness that leans towards baked apple. Here, I’ve immersed myself in the art of crafting Mezcal, gaining a newfound appreciation for the craftsmanship that goes into distilling this ancient spirit. Excerpt: Overall, this is an expression from JIm Beam to skip. Both the regular white label and the extra aged are better bourbons.

No partnership, joint venture, agency, or employment relationship is created as a result of your use of the Service. Notably, there’s a substantial difference in price between them with the Jim Beam being more affordable. However, the Woodford Reserve bourbon reigns supreme when it comes to sheer indulgence. Jim Beam starts with a fermented mash containing 77% Corn, 13% Rye, and 10% Malted Barley. That’s more rye that usual for a bourbon, but half as much as Bulleit uses in their spirit. Nevertheless, it still has well over half the grains coming from corn and so meets the legal requirements there. You have probably seen the adverts for this featuring Mila Kunis which if you are a bloke and into women may have influenced your opinion on this already. If you aren’t then you might be indifferent towards it and just wondering if the juice is any good!

It drinks warmer than what the stated proof suggests, but adding a large ice ball makes it much more enjoyable. Honestly, it’s pretty good. Jim Beam isn’t my first choice for sipping something neat but this might actually be okay. It’s smooth, tasty, and has a good weight on the tongue for being about 86 proof (43% ABV). Welcome to Beam Suntory

The finish is of decent length, with a slight bite and an earthy/ashy note, leaving behind a lingering taste of chocolate, corn, and oak char. Maple, oak, some burnt toffee, pecans corn and more oak. It’s good and definitely a step up form the regular white label Jim Beam. The mash bill for this release consists of approximately 77% corn, 13% rye, and 10% malted barley. Following this initial ageing, the bourbon is transferred to another set of new, charred American oak barrels for further ageing, adding complexity to its flavour profile. The Double Oak comes in a short, robust, fat bottle. While it still carries some of the iconic form and design elements of the iconic Jim Beam Bourbon, this bottle is a more than notch up from the standard version. What’s interesting is that this variation is sealed with a plastic screw cap instead of a cork. It is first aged in charred American white oak barrels then we pour it into another freshly charred barrel to mature for a second time. The added interaction with the oak wood results in a liquid intense in flavor, smooth in taste.” The message and underlying theme of the Double Oak are elegantly translated into the sensory experience of the spirit. This makes it a superb Bourbon whiskey to sip have from a nosing glass, like the Schott-Zwiesel one I used for this review. Oak, caramel, dry corn, vanilla, dark fruit, toffee and light bits of maple and a slight bit of yeastiness. The palate is a bit muted compared to the aroma, but it’s still wonderfully drinkable. This experience was a precursor to my venture into the liquor shop business, where I had the privilege of curating an extensive collection of liquors, granting me access to thousands of unique bottles from across the globe.

How To Drink Jim Beam Double Oak

Excerpt: It’s unique and certainly not bad, but rather one-dimensional. Then again, it might be just the thing around a fire pit on a chilly autumn night.

Analogous to the olfactory sensation, the palate indicates just a hint of mellowness but then proudly states its character, spice and rich flavors. The ice helps to mellow out harsh notes and reduce the heat, while also enhancing the sweetness and oak characteristics. When it comes to pairing recommendations, I was mesmerized by the intriguing combination with “Kokoskuppeln”, which is a typical Austrian sweet made of creamed coconut flakes, waffle and bitter chocolate. The coconut sweetness and the mellowness are excellent matches with the American white Oak, beautifully counterbalancing some of the dryness, some of the astringency and the charred woodiness from the Double Oak. A match made in heaven.
