DayMax Yellow Lens - These filter 70% of blue light across all of the blue light spectrum (400nm-500nm), these provide maximum daytime protection and are prefect for people who are light sensitive or are on screens most of the day or under harsh artificial lighting all day. Your glasses should fit snugly on your face—not too tightly and not too loosely. You should be able to move your head from side to side without them falling off or putting pressure on your ears or nose. Choose from two standard frame styles with three available colors apiece. You can also select a clip-on option to use with prescription lenses or sunglasses. All glasses are treated to resist glare, fog, and smudging, allowing for near-perfect clarity at all times. The unisex design is geared toward men and women. Blue light is a type of light emitted by cell phones, computers, and televisions—in other words, the same devices most of us spend huge parts of our day using. “Blue light glasses are glasses with special coatings designed to eliminate the short wavelength of blue light,” says Brian Lojka, OD, an optometrist at Clarkson Eyecare and medical officer of optometry for EyeCare Partners. “These can be lenses with prescription or without… [and] people who feel stress or strain upon their vision after looking at computer or phone screens might want to wear them.”

In addition to minimizing that annoying glare during video calls, the Felix Gray pair were also comfortable to wear throughout several eight-hour work days without needing adjustment. There was no slipping or pinching, either. As for clarity, we thought the untinted lenses were crisp and clear, though there was a more subtle rather than dramatic improvement in eye strain symptoms than with other glasses. (In other words, they may help reduce eye fatigue and headaches…or they may not.) Overall, if you need a pair of glasses that doesn’t cause a distracting, glare-y reflection during video calls, the Felix Gray Jemison is your best bet. Fluorescent lights and LED bulbs typically emit more blue light than warmer-toned incandescent light bulbs, though plenty of manufacturers are starting to make LED lightbulbs that emulate the color pattern of incandescent lightbulbs. Consider switching to warmer-toned lightbulbs or installing a dimmer to reduce the brightness of your home lighting as you approach bedtime. Similarly, using a dim red night light during midnight bathroom trips can help provide illumination while limiting your blue light exposure. Use a Dimming SoftwareOne of the most effective ways to reduce blue light exposure and improve your sleep is to avoid using electronics before bed. Ideally, you should try to end screen time at least 1 hour before you go to bed, to give your body time to ramp up melatonin production. Instead of scrolling through social media, consider winding down by reading a book or listening to music. Switch Up Your Home Lighting When it comes to natural light from the sun, blue light is very helpful. Exposure to a healthy amount of blue light in the daytime promotes alertness and helps you sleep better at night. However, too much blue light exposure later in the evening makes it harder to fall asleep and may also contribute to poor sleep quality and morning grogginess. First, our editors and testers used screens as they normally would—without blue light glasses—for around four hours. We asked them to make note of any common eye strain symptoms, like headaches, dry or itchy eyes, and sensitivity to light. After that, they wore blue light glasses for around four hours, again making note of how their eyes felt. From there, we asked our testers to continue wearing their blue light glasses while using screens for one week, with the goal of noting any differences in eye health from the first day of use until the last.

If there’s one point we make the most on this blog, it’s that digital screens can cause digital eye strain. Another point we frequently bring up is that artificial blue light can disrupt your sleep cycle. Being such a prevalent problem in today’s modern age, this latter point deserves more emphasis. Blue light is also the primary cause of a condition called computer vision syndrome - or digital eye strain, as it's more commonly known. The good thing is that this condition is temporary - but it can still be rather uncomfortable. It's defined by symptoms like dizziness, migraines, dry eyes and blurred vision caused by staring at a screen for a long time.Just like with any other pair of eyewear, whether they’re prescription bifocalsor trendy sunglasses, comfort is important when choosing the right pair for you. If your glasses aren’t comfortable on your face, you’ll start finding any reason not to wear them, totally defeating the point of having them in the first place. Plus, ill-fitting glasses can cause ear pain, nose pain, and even headaches, so you want to make sure you have a secure fit. Keep these key points in mind about how glasses should feel when deciding on the right ones: Don’t worry—this doesn’t necessarily mean you have to stop using your devices in the evening. While avoiding the use of digital devices a couple of hours before bed can help your sleep cycle, there’s also another option: sleep glasses. What are Sleep Glasses? Of course, the blue light lenses are the real stars here. And the brand has a few different types, depending on what you need. Optical lenses If you’re considering a pair of blue light glasses, you may want to make sure the lenses also include an anti-glare or anti-reflective coating—otherwise, you may find your headaches or digital eye strain continues to persist.
